Abstract
The 2018 Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) GIRFT report found ‘surprisingly high readmission (RA) rates and high levels of variation. Recent data for Gloucester Royal Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust demonstrated a 21.6% RA for all head and neck cancer (OMFS and ENT), comparatively high to national and peer medians of 10%. We audited two years of RA and returns to theatre (RTT) to analyse the reasons for this and present important conclusions, potentially relevant to all OMFS units.
