This becomes more challenging when patients have more than one disease requiring a targeted treatment. Autoimmune diseases commonly co-occur, and thus, multidisciplinary working is important in rheumatology. We present a case where a patient with a new diagnosis of alopecia areata on a background of rheumatoid arthritis was successfully treated with baricitinib monotherapy, with improvement in both conditions.Publication A guide to prescribing systemic treatments for psoriasis during pregnancy, breastfeeding and in those trying to conceive: what does the current evidence suggest?(Oxford University Press, 2024-05-21) Hutchison, Eliza; Eraifej, Natalie; Moss, Jake; Rolls, Sophie; Wainman, Hannah; Moss, Jake; Medical and DentalPsoriasis is a common inflammatory skin condition with an estimated prevalence of 1.5% in the UK. Its management has evolved rapidly over the past 15 years as our understanding of its pathogenesis has progressed. Treatment initiation often overlaps with peak reproductive years, posing specific therapeutic challenges for individuals hoping to conceive. Certain systemic agents are well established to be teratogenic during pregnancy, such as methotrexate and acitretin, but data on newer drug classes for psoriasis remain limited. This literature review evaluated recent data on the systemic agents for psoriasis, explicitly considering the context of male and female fertility, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Our goal was to equip clinicians with an accessible, concise summary of up-to-date evidence to help them educate patients and facilitate informed, shared decision-making aligned with their reproductive health.Publication BH01 (P087) The British Hair and Nail Society present a review of our national grand round of challenging hair disorders and the benefits to the wider British Association of Dermatologists membership(Oxford University Press, 2024-06-28) Sharma, Sonia; Bryden, Alyson; Clayton, Nicola; Farrant, Paul; Mowbray, Megan; Holmes, Susan; Therianou, Anastasia; Al-Nuaimi, Yusur; Meah, Nekma; Asfour, Leila; Takwale, Anita; Takwale, Anita; Medical and DentalNo abstract available
